Irish women's hockey Olympic Dream
ended on Saturday the 20th of June.
The Irish
women started their World League 2 campaign on the 10th of June with their
opening game against South Africa with an amazing performance and winning
4-1.Giving them 3 points on the board. They unfortunately lost 3-1 to
Germany who are the world’s number 5 but where happy with how they performed.
They had their third game against Uruguay winning 3-2 which game
them another 3 points on the board. In their final game of the
pool stages against the USA the Irish were the underdogs. Showing the
world what they are made of they won 2-0 giving them a further 3 points.

The Irish ladies
topped their pool table and played china in the quarterfinal. If they were to
win the match they book a spot for themselves in the Olympics and if they lost
they still had a chance to go to the Olympics but not guaranteed. The Irish
women went down 1-0 and with great fight came back and scored a goal. The game
finished as a 1-1 draw and went to 1 v 1s. It was 3-3 and went to sudden death.
China won 4-3 and guaranteed their spot in the Olympics. The Irish still had a
chance but had to win their next match against The USA. USA were fired up and
ready to fight after Ireland beating them in the pool stages. USA won 6-1 and
the Irish women’s Olympic dream was over.
